Fact 1: He built a house on Lot 14 -- 2 storey brick & frame, with 5 bedrooms, parlour, dining room, kitchen and summer kitchen. The house was built in stages.
Crown grant: The west half of Lot 14 was granted to Charles M. Janes on January 16, 1851.

Occupation: Charles delivered mail by horseback from London to Errol, probably via the Egremont Road. — about 1840 — drove stagecoach out of London, Ontario; the assignee of John Sykes
Settled: 1848 — This is the first record of Charles settling in Warwick, in connection with the Maple Leaf (Maple Grove) Hotel in Warwick Village. The Maple Leaf was a prominent post-house in staging days. It was also a place of business for drovers.

Property: October 1, 1851 — Charles purchased Lots 1, 2, 3, West Camden Street; Lot 4 on Camden (First) Street and all of Lot 1 SER, Warwick Village from James Atkinson for 200 pounds.
Property: December 23, 1854 — Charles purchased the south 49 acres of the east half of Lot 14, 3NER. He built a 1 storey log house, a slaughter house and a smith shop. Brickyard also located here.
Fact 4: between 1853 and 1854 — Charles served as Councillor for Ward 3.
Occupation: for 8 years an innkeeper, Maple Leaf or Maple Grove Hotel, on old Highway 7 (Egremont Road) in Warwick Village — 1854

Fact 2: 1861 — William Fullerton, a 20 year old labourer from Ireland, and Catherine Overholt, 18, from West Canada lived with them -- census records
Property: May 5, 1865 — Charles sold all the property in the village to William Manders.
Fact 5: 1869 — His father came to live with him after his mother died. Samuel died there the next year.
Finances: 1874 — owned shares in Maple Grove Cheese Factory, 12 sideroad.
Health: 1874 — Charles died of a ruptured appendix.
Fact: The menu at the Maple Leaf included wild geese, frog legs and venison.
Fact 3: He was involved in community affairs. He was a Reformer who never sought political office.
Politics: staunch Reformer
Will: 1874 — left east 1/2 Lot 14 3NER to son Robert, on condition he care for his mother.

Fact 3: 1877 — She built a large 2 storey white brick house about 200 yards northwest of Bear Creek, directly north of where the pond was later dug by her son Robert Janes
Property: 1880 — all of Lot 14, 3NER, north half of Lot 7, 2NER, east half of west half of Lot 16 3NER, a total of 350 acres.
Fact: a devoted wife and mother who kept her 7 unmarried children together after Charles' death.
Fact 2: Jennet took over farm after Charles' death and it prospered.
Fact 4: The original house had a kitchen, back kitchen, dining room, parlour, 5 bedrooms, a large hallway. There was a low basement under the kitchen, a cistern which held rain water off the roof of the house and a furnace.
Fact 5: There was a porch across the front of the house and an attached woodshed was added.
Fact 6: Education was important to her. Two sons taught school, then became medical doctors in the USA
Death: at home of daughter Mrs Hillis — August 14, 1900 — Arkona, Ontario
Burial: 1900 — Bethel Cemetery, Warwick Twp. On her tombstone is "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want."
