Settled: 1848 — This is the first record of Charles settling in Warwick, in connection with the Maple Leaf (Maple Grove) Hotel in Warwick Village. The Maple Leaf was a prominent post-house in staging days. It was also a place of business for drovers.

Property: December 23, 1854 — Charles purchased the south 49 acres of the east half of Lot 14, 3NER. He built a 1 storey log house, a slaughter house and a smith shop. Brickyard also located here.

Fact 5: 1869 — His father came to live with him after his mother died. Samuel died there the next year.
Finances: 1874 — owned shares in Maple Grove Cheese Factory, 12 sideroad.
Health: 1874 — Charles died of a ruptured appendix.
Fact: The menu at the Maple Leaf included wild geese, frog legs and venison.
Fact 3: He was involved in community affairs. He was a Reformer who never sought political office.

Fact 3: 1877 — She built a large 2 storey white brick house about 200 yards northwest of Bear Creek, directly north of where the pond was later dug by her son Robert Janes

Fact: a devoted wife and mother who kept her 7 unmarried children together after Charles' death.
Fact 2: Jennet took over farm after Charles' death and it prospered.
Fact 4: The original house had a kitchen, back kitchen, dining room, parlour, 5 bedrooms, a large hallway. There was a low basement under the kitchen, a cistern which held rain water off the roof of the house and a furnace.
Fact 5: There was a porch across the front of the house and an attached woodshed was added.
Fact 6: Education was important to her. Two sons taught school, then became medical doctors in the USA
