WATFORD GUIDE ADVOCATE 18 November 1927 (as found on freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~granniesgarden/Granny3/obit20.html) - SHOULD BE 1929, NOT 1927 One of Warwick Township's most well known citizens and pioneer sons, William Janes, passed away at his home on the second line north on Saturday 12 November, aged 69 years. He had been in poor health during the past summer and illness during the past few weeks had prevented his removal from the farm to the new home he had recently remodelled on St. Clair Street, Watford. He was the son of Charles and Jane (Auld) Janes, who came to this country from Scotland in the early 1850's and helped clear the bush from the farms which they afterward owned. He was noted for having one of the keenest intellects and the soundest judgement of anyone in the whole community. Mr. Janes was a progressive farmer and live stock breeder. He was a school trustee in his section for 15 years and a member of the Presbyterian Church and Canadian Order of Foresters. In December 1866, he married Mary McGillicuddy daughter of Euschius [sic Eusebius] McGillicuddy the township treasurer at that time. Besides his widow he leaves five sons: C. Euschius [sic] treasurer of Warwick Township; W. Kenneth at home; Dr. Lorne V. of Edmonton; Dr. Robert of Toronto and Dr. Ermest of Hamilton and one daughter Evelyn graduate nurse of London; also three brothers; Thomas of San Francisco; Samuel of Marmette [sic - Marquette], Michigan and Robert of London and three sisters; Mrs W.G. Hall of Warwick; Mrs. J. Giffen of London and Mrs. F. Hillis of Toronto. The funeral which was held from the family home lot 9 on Monday afternoon was very largely attended; service being conducted by Rev. H. V. Workman of St. Andrew's, assisted by Rev. S. Sweetman of Warwick Village. Interment was made in Watford Cemetery. The pallbearers being Dr. John McGillicuddy, Robert McGillicuddy, and fours sons; Robert, C.F. [sic C. E.], Kenneth and Ernest Janes. |
