Shared note

When James and Matilda (McElroy) Brandon emigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1850, the trip across the Atlantic took 4 weeks and 4 days. They sailed with 3 sons and 3 daughters. Their baby died and was buried at sea.
They sailed to New York City, took a lumber wagon to Rochester, crossed Lake Ontario to Hamilton, then came to Warwick Village where a Brandon uncle was already settled. They came by wagon to a shanty in the bush south of Forest. James cleared the farm and built a log house, bringing shingles from Forest.
Four more children were born in Canada.
